Rochester,
N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team competed at Friday’s Brown
and Orange Invitational at Rochester Institute of Technology. No team scores
were kept at the meet, where the Knights recorded four first-place finishes.
Leading the way was the distance medley relay team that posted a winning time
of 11:51.64 – a program record time ever and the second-fastest mark by a
Division III team this season.
Sophomore Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) ran the 1,200-meter leg,
followed by junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) in the 400, senior
Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) in the 800 and graduate student Alyssa
Smith (Rochester/Brighton) in the 1,600.
Kowalewski also won the 800-meter run. Her time of 2:18.69 was an ECAC
Championships qualifying mark. Smith placed third in the race with another ECAC
mark (2:21.91).
Senior Diahann Cuevo (Mohegan/Yorktown) won the 60-meter dash; her time of 8.19
is the program’s third-fastest ever. She also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash
(27.30).
Junior Mary Aldridge (Rochester/Brighton) rounded out Geneseo’s winners,
placing first in the mile run with an ECAC-qualifying time of 5:11.31. Senior Danae
Polsin (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) placed third in the event (5:21.23).
Senior Rachel Serpe (Gates/Gates-Chili) took fifth in the pole vault, clearing
2.10 meters – the program’s second-best mark.
First year Shannon Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer) was second in the 1,000-meter
run with an ECAC qualifying time of 3:06.33.
Wood finished third in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 60.48 was both the
program’s eighth-fastest and an ECAC qualifier.
In the 5,000-meter run, senior Erin Dorset (Clifton Park/Shenendehowa) was
third in 19:30.62 and first year Rayenne Luke (Williamson) was fourth in
19:32.25.
Senior Brigid Heenan (Liverpool/Liverpool) and first year Ashton Hughes (Fairport/Fairport)
were fourth and fifth in the 3,000-meter run with respective times of 10:56.01
and 10:56.19.
Geneseo’s 1,600-meter relay team of first year Sarah Anstett (East Aurora/East
Aurora), first year Winny Chen (New York/Brooklyn Technical), junior Emma
Deshaies and Dorset took fourth in 4:31.19.
The Knights compete at the SUNYAC Championships Saturday. Geneseo placed third at last year’s conference meet.
