New Paltz, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s basketball team (20-7)
dropped a 64-53 decision to host New Paltz (24-3) in the title game of the
State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Tournament.
The Knights were down by as many as 14 points late in the first half but pulled
to within three points, trailing just 44-41 with 6:58 to go. The top-seeded
Hawks scored the next three points and kept Geneseo from closing to one
possession for the rest of the game.
Senior guard Melissa Graham (East Orchard/Mount Mercy) recorded her sixth double-double
of the season, leading Geneseo with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Her three
assists also led the team.
First year forward Allison McKenna (Huntington/John Glenn), who joined Graham
on the all-tournament team, scored 11 points and added five rebounds and two
blocked shots. Sophomore forward Shannon McGinnis (Walworth/Gananda) and first
year guard Dana Cohan (Rochester/Greece Athena) both pulled down six rebounds.
Senior forward Nyisha Lewis (Rochester/Mercy) scored seven points in just six
minutes off the bench.
