Rochester, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s lacrosse team (2-0) remained
unbeaten with a 15-14 double overtime win at previously undefeated Rochester
Institute of Technology (2-1) Tuesday.
Sophomore attack Katey Hart (Syracuse/West Genesee) notched five goals,
including the tying score with 81 seconds left in the first overtime and the
game-winner with 1:59 to go in the second overtime.
Hart, who also led the Knights with career-best totals of seven ground balls
and three caused turnovers, added a first-half assist to match her personal
high of six points.
The Tigers scored off the opening draw in the first overtime period, taking a
14-13 lead 12 seconds in. Hart knotted the score 1:20 later; her game-winning
goal came after senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) recorded a
save on a Tiger free-position shot. RIT won the ensuing draw but lost
possession when senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport)
caused a turnover that she recovered herself.
Junior Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill) finished with four goals and an
assist. She raised her career total to 153 points, becoming the sixth Knight to
reach 150 points. Buonocore and Hart both had three draw controls.
Junior defender Kylie Caesar (Delmar/Bethlehem) collected two goals and an
assist. Junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) and junior attack Meredith
Weber (Bellport/Bellport) added two goals apiece.
Haggerty, who also picked up four ground balls, now has 120 career points, good
for 12th on Geneseo’s all-time list. Weber’s two goals tied a career high.
Senior midfielder Rachel Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) collected five ground
balls and Theofield picked up three.
Bernatzky finished with 12 saves including three in overtime.
The Knights play a 4 p.m. game at #17 Ithaca Friday.
