GENESEO, N.Y. – A total of 10 members of
the Geneseo field hockey team have been named to the National Field Hockey
Coaches (NFHCA) National Academic Squad, which honors student-athletes who have
achieved a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 through the fall
2012 semester. In addition, the Knights earned the NFHCA’s National Academic
Team Award, which recognizes teams whose combined GPA was at least 3.0 last
fall.
Three Knights received special recognition; sophomore Cathryn Menarchem (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading
River), a mathematics major; was named an NFCA Scholar of Distinction after posting
a GPA over 3.90 last fall; and Seniors Katie Gallo (Sayville/Sayville), an
international relations/economics major, and Chellie Johnson (Rochester/Webster
Thomas), a business administration major, were honored as four-year members of
the NFHCA National Academic Squad. Geneseo’s other recipients were first year Pamela
Emengo (Holtsville/Sachem East), a biology major; first year Elena Hingston (East
Amherst/Williamsville North), a communication major; first year Dayna Mercer (Katonah/John Jay), a
mathematics/secondary education major; junior Kim Sherman (Dix Hills/Commack), an
elementary education major; first year Kailey Suhr (Webster/Webster Thomas), a
biology major; senior Aly Tarney (Baldwinsville/C.W.
Baker), a mathematics/business administration major; and sophomore Emily Topping
(Webster/Webster Schroeder), an elementary education/special education major.
Only one State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) team had
more representatives on the National Academic Squad.
