Humacao, Puerto Rico – The Geneseo women’s tennis team (11-1)
blanked a Division II opponent for the second day in a row, defeating Puerto
Rico-Rio Piedras 9-0 Tuesday.
Four Knights were double winners. First year Marylen Santos
(Jamaica/St. Francis Prep) and senior Katie Talbot
(Endwell/Maine-Endwell) are now 11-1 at first doubles after an 8-1 win. In
singles play, Santos improved to 8-2 at first singles with a straight-set victory
and Talbot raised her record to 8-2 by dropping just one game at third singles.
Sophomore Amanda Rosati (Albany/Academy of the Holy Names) and senior Sarah
Shields (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) stayed perfect at second doubles,
winning 8-1 to up their season mark to 7-0. They were straight-set singles
winners at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
Geneseo won one doubles match and two singles bouts by default.
The Knights conclude their spring break trip Friday, facing Springfield.
