Orlando, Fla. – The Geneseo women’s lacrosse team (4-1) won
for the fourth time in five games, cruising to a 23-3 win over Centre (4-4). A
total of 12 Knights scored as Geneseo held the Colonels scoreless in the second
half.
Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) made five saves over the first
45 minutes and sophomore Laura Passamonte (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) made two
saves in 15 shutout minutes.
Junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) led the Knights with six
points on four goals and two assists. Junior attack Caroline Buonocore
(Syracuse/Westhill) and senior attack Jen Costanza (Webster/Schroeder) scored
three goals apiece and junior midfielder Meredith Weber (Bellport/Bellport) added
two goals.
Buonocore raised her career total to 165 points, good for fifth on the program’s
all-time list. Haggerty has now scored 132 points, ranking ninth.
First year midfielder Tara Basile (Wantagh/Wantagh) and senior midfielder Rachel
Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) both collected three points.
Haggerty picked up three ground balls and won three draw controls. Buonocore
and junior defender Kylie Caesar (Delmar/Bethlehem) led the Knights with four draw controls apiece
and senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) caused a team-best three turnovers.
The Knights return to action Tuesday, hosting St. Lawrence in their home opener.
