GENESEO, N.Y. – The #19 women's lacrosse team (5-1) won for the fifth time in six games, beating visiting St. Lawrence (4-3) 16-7 Tuesday. The Knights used a 9-1 run that spanned both halves to take control of the game.
Sophomore attack Katey Hart (Syracuse/West Genesee) scored four of her
game-high five goals during the decisive run. Hart, who came within a goal of
her top single-game scoring effort, picked up a game-best six ground balls and added
four draw controls. She raised her career total to 50 goals, becoming the 20th
Knight to reach that mark
Senior midfielder Lea Paris (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) matched Hart with five points, matching a personal best. Her three assists were also a career high.
Junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) scored three goals and junior attack Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill) added four points on a goal and three assists.
Buonocore, who matched a career-high with five draw controls, has now scored 19 goals this spring and 140 in her career (fourth all-time at Geneseo).
Senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) recorded a career-best four caused turnovers to lead all players. First year defender Bridget Lincoln (Glen Head/North Shore) added a career-high three.
Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) stopped six shots and picked up a career-high five ground balls. Buonocore and Haggerty both finished with three ground balls.
Junior midfielder Meredith Weber (Bellport/Bellport) and senior midfielder Rachel Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) scored two apiece.
The Knights open State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) competition Saturday, playing at #3 Cortland Saturday.
