GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s tennis team (13-1)
remained unbeaten in the spring season, posting an 8-1 win over visiting
Roberts Wesleyan (10-9).
Geneseo swept the doubles matches and won five of six singles contests – all in straight sets.
Four Knights were double winners: sophomore Zakiyyah Abdus-Salaam (Mount Vernon/The Ursuline School) remained unbeaten on the year, raising her overall season record to 17-0 by winning at sixth singles and teaming with sophomore Minxuan Yuan (Flushing/Benjamin Cardozo) for an 8-1 victory at third doubles. Abdus-Salaam is now 11-0 in singles play (8-0 at the sixth spot) and is 6-0 in doubles. Minxuan Yuan’s doubles mark is a perfect 9-0; she’s 15-1 overall.
Sophomore Amanda Rosati (Albany/Academy of the Holy Names) and senior Sarah Shields (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) were 8-2 winners at second doubles – where they’re now 9-0 on the year – and recorded straight-set wins at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Rosati is 10-1 in singles play (23-2) and Shields raised her singles record to 12-0 and her overall mark to 23-1.
Senior Katie Talbot (Endwell/Maine-Endwell) and sophomore Dexuan Yuan (Flushing/Benjamin Cardozo) rounded out Geneseo’s singles winners. Talbot swept her third singles opponent to up her record to 10-2 (she’s 22-3 overall). Dexuan Yuan was a straight-set winner at second singles and is now 9-1 in singles competition and 16-2 combined.
Talbot and first year Marylen Santos (Jamaica/St. Francis Prep) were 8-5 winners at first doubles. They’ve compiled a 13-1 record on the year.
The Knights play a 4 p.m. match at William Smith Wednesday.
