GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo softball
team (8-12, 3-3 SUNYAC) split a doubleheader with visiting Brockport (9-8, 5-1
SUNYAC) Saturday, winning game one 6-0 and losing game two 6-2.
Senior Katie Gallagher (Gansevoort/Schuylerville) threw a complete-game six-hit shutout in game one, improving to 3-3 on the season with the second shutout of her career. She struck out four Golden Eagles, walked only one and allowed just one runner past second.
Sophomore center fielder Kayleigh Blersch (Lancaster/Lancaster) doubled twice and senior third baseman Jessica Steubing (Fairport/Fairport) hit her first home run of the season to spark Geneseo’s offense.
Steubing’s lead-off home run in the fourth broke a scoreless tie and the Knights added a second run when senior right fielder Lexi Williams (Waterford/Shenendehowa) walked and came around to score on three Brockport wild pitches.
Sophomore shortstop Samantha Brown (Canton/Hugh C. Williams) led off the fifth with a single and scored on a single by Steubing. Williams added a run-scoring single later in the inning.
Geneseo wrapped up the scoring in the sixth; Blersch led off with a double off the right-field fence then scored on a wild pitch and Brown singled home sophomore left fielder Abby Weiss (Hamburg/Hamburg).
Brown and Steubing both finished with two hits.
Junior first baseman Samantha Trapasso (Garden City/Garden City) drove in of the Knights’ runs in the nightcap. She hit a sacrifice fly in the first and led off the sixth with her fifth home run of the season. The home run was the 13th of her career, tying her for fifth on the program’s all-time list.
Sophomore Ashley Fillmore (Getzville/Williamsville North) doubled to lead off the Geneseo first then scored on Trapasso’s sacrifice fly.
