N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team recorded 21 top-10 finishes
including two wins to lead the Knights to a fourth-place finish at the 14-team
meet Rochester Alumni Invitational.
Graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) took first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, posting the nation's top time this season (10:39.22). Senior Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) won the 800-meter run in 2:15.63. Both performances were Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships qualifying efforts.
Sophomore Elyssa Slawinski (East Northport/Northport) recorded three top-10 finishes; she placed fourth in the discus (34.97 meters/114-9), eighth in the hammer throw (37.17 meters/121-11) and shot put (9.64 meters/31-7 1/2).
Sophomore Joanna Castrogivanni (Smithtown/West) finished second in the 5,000-meter run in an ECAC-qualifying time of 18:15.67.
First year Shannon Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:38.87) and first year Ashton Hughes (Fairport/Fairport) was seventh in 11:51.87. Both times met the ECAC standard.
Junior Danielle Turney finished seventh in the discus (28.49 meters/93-6) and eighth in the shot put (10.02 meters/32-10 1/2).
First year Savanna Russ was sixth in the pole vault (2.82 meters/9-3) and sophomore Melissa Lam (Syosset/Syosset) was eighth (2.67 meters/8-9).
Three Knights posted top-10 finishes in the 400-meter hurdles: junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was sixth in 1:06.92, first year Kylie Ryan (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) placed seventh in 1:07.84 and junior Victoria Kuberka (Clarence/Clarence) finished eighth in 1:08.05.
Junior Rebekah Steinke (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:55.59) with sophomore Cassie Goodman (Phelps/Midlakes) ninth in 4:58.48.
Junior Carly Biondi was ninth in the high jump (1.39 meters/4-6 3/4) and junior Hannah Hughes (Olean/Olean) finished 10th in the 400-meter dash (1:02.84).
Geneseo’s 400-meter relay team – Hoh, sophomore Kristin Gottstine (Tillson/Kingston), first year Aimee Bacher (Loudonville/Colonie) and senior Diahann Cuevo (Mohegan/Yorktown) – placed seventh in a time of 52.89 and the 1,600-meter team took sixth in 4:10.13.
