Fredonia, N.Y. – The #22 Geneseo women's lacrosse team (5-4,
0-3 SUNYAC) dropped a 9-8 decision at #20 Fredonia (11-0, 3-0 SUNYAC) in a
contest between nationally ranked State University of New York Athletic
Conference (SUNYAC) teams.
The host Blue Devils scored the game’s final two goals 88 seconds apart to record the win. The game was tied eight times.
First year defender Liz Felix (Scarsdale/Scarsdale) scored her third goal of the season with 16:06 left in the second half to give the Knights their final lead.
Junior midfielder Meredith Weber (Bellport/Bellport) led Geneseo with two goals and junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) recorded a goal and two assists.
Weber’s goals – her 20th and 21st of the season – raised her career total to 54 points. Haggerty has a team-leading 36 points this spring. Her 146 career points are sixth all-time at Geneseo. She also contributed team-leading totals of four draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) added four caused turnovers.
Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) stopped 11 shots in goal.
Junior attack Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill), sophomore attack Katey Hart (Syracuse/West Genesee), senior midfielder Lea Paris (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) and senior midfielder Rachel Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) each scored a goal. Buonocore moved into fourth on the program’s all-time list, raising her career total to 176 points.
The Knights host Rochester Friday at 4 p.m.
