Rochester, N.Y. – The #22 Geneseo women’s lacrosse team
(6-4) snapped a three-game losing streak Friday, routing host Rochester (2-9)
Junior Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill) scored four goals to lead the Knights, who held Rochester scoreless for the game’s first 35:14. She raised her career total to 180 points (148 goals and 32 assists) and is seven goals away from breaking the program’s all-time record.
Senior midfielder Rachel Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) and junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) both recorded four points – Petrone, who picked up three ground balls to match Buonocore's total, tallied three goals and an assist and Haggerty finished with a pair of goals and a pair of assists.
Petrone has now scored 127 career points and Haggerty’s total stands at 150.
Buonocore, Haggerty and first year defender Liz Felix (Scarsdale/Scarsdale) each won two draw controls and senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) led the Knights with a pair of caused turnovers.
Felix notched a career-best two assists and junior attack Caitlin King (Wading River/Shoreham) contributed a goal and an assist.
Senior midfielder Lea Paris (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta), junior attack Meredith Weber (Bellport/Bellport) and sophomore midfielder Samantha Grabher (Glen Head/North Shore) each scored a goal. Paris reached 100 points for her career – she’s the 20th Knight to hit that milestone.
Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) played the first 50 minutes with sophomore Laura Passamonte (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) finishing the game. Neither saw much action as the Yellowjackets were held to eight shots.
The Knights host Potsdam Saturday at 4 p.m. (the game had originally been scheduled for a 1 p.m. start).
