Oswego, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s lacrosse team (5-4, 2-0 SUNYAC) remained unbeaten in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play, beating host Oswego (6-5, 1-3 SUNYAC) 14-6 Saturday.
The Knights outscored the Lakers 7-1 in the second quarter to take an 8-2 lead into halftime.
Sophomore attack Sam Thompson (Queensbury/Queensbury) led the Knights with four goals and an assist – including a pair of goals during the pivotal second quarter. He’s now scored 28 points this spring (22 goals, six assists).
Sophomore attack Brent Lawless (Massapequa Park/Massapequa) added three points on a goal and two assists and sophomore midfielder Zach Yehl (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) scored a pair of goals.
Sophomore attack Steven Cregan (Rochester/Brighton) tallied two assists. Cregan, who led Geneseo with five ground balls, raised his season total to a team-leading 30 points (11 goals, 19 assists).
Senior midfielder Tim Burgess (Syracuse/Westhill) and sophomore midfielder Steve Aziz (Jamesville/Jamesville-DeWitt) both contributed a goal and an assist. Aziz’s goal was an unassisted score that started Geneseo’s 7-1 second-quarter run. The Knights had eight extra-man opportunities and weren’t whistled for a penalty.
Junior Ryan Zaremba (Bay Shore/Army Prep) stopped 12 of 17 shots while playing through the middle of the fourth quarter. Senior Michael Greubel (North Merrick/Mepham) closed out the game with a pair of saves.
Senior midfielder John Felix (Scarsdale/Scarsdale) and junior midfielder Joe Cicio (Northport/Northport) both picked up four ground balls. Felix, first year midfielder Jordan Briceland (East Amherst/Williamsville East), first year attack Harrison Dittmeier (Babylon/Babylon) and first year midfielder Brad Willows (Queensbury/Queensbury) each scored a goal.
The Knights host top-ranked Cortland Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. (the game had been postponed from Thursday).
