GENESEO, N.Y. – The #22 Geneseo women’s lacrosse team (7-4,
1-3 SUNYAC) won its second game in as many days, beating visiting Potsdam (4-6,
1-3 SUNYAC) 18-3 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC)
The host Knights held the Bears to 10 shots and scored 13 straight goals to break a 1-1 tie.
Junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) led Geneseo with five goals and an assist, sophomore attack Katey Hart (Syracuse/West Genesee) added four goals and an assist and junior attack Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill) contributed three goals.
Haggerty’s fourth goal of the game was the 100th of her career; the 10th Knight to reach that plateau, she now ranks ninth on the program’s all-time list with 101. She’s netted a team-leading 46 points this spring and 156 In her career.
Buonocore, who led the Knights with four draw controls, raised her career totals to 151 goals and 183 points; she’s six goals away from becoming Geneseo’s all-time record holder.
Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) made five saves over the game’s first 48 minutes and sophomore Laura Passamonte (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) added a save over the final 12 minutes.
Senior midfielder Lea Paris (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) scored two goals and added an assist.
Senior midfielder Rachel Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) and junior attack Meredith Weber (Bellport/Bellport) both finished with a goal and an assist.
First year defender Liz Felix (Scarsdale/Scarsdale) and sophomore midfielder Samantha Grabher (Glen Head/North Shore) both tallied a goal.
Haggerty picked up three ground balls and caused four turnovers to lead the team in both categories. Senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) also collected three ground balls.
The Knights return to action Tuesday, hosting Brockport at 4 p.m.
