Women's Track & Field Competes At Two Weekend Meets

The Geneseo women’s track & field team sent participants to two non-scoring meets – Roberts Wesleyan’s Redhawk Invitational and Bucknell’s Bison Classic.

At Roberts Wesleyan, the Knights recorded 10 top-10 efforts, led by the 1,600-meter relay team’s win.

The quartet of junior Hannah Hughes (Olean/Olean), first year Brianna VanSoest (Alpine/Trumansburg), sophomore Molly McGaley (Babylon/St. John the Baptist) and junior Towi Kuberka (Clarence/Clarence) posted a first-place time of 4:26.05.

Two other relay teams recorded top-five finishes for the Knights: the 500-meter quartet of McGaley, sophomore Kristen Gottstine (Tillson/Kingston), first year Aimee Bacher (Loudonville/Colonie) and junior Samantha Hudson (Victor/Victor) took fourth in 54.75; and the 1,600-meter relay team of first years Christiana Mott (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon), Carey Murzynski (Hamburg/Hamburg), Rachel Bruce (Ithaca/Lansing) and junior Lauren McKnight (North Massapequa/Farmington) was fifth in 4:41.50.

First year Ellie Trelstad (White Plains/White Plains) placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run in 19:28.00.

Junior Danielle Turney was seventh in the shot put (10.27 meters) and junior Carly Biondi cleared 1.40 meters in the high jump to place seventh.

Junior Diana Dorothy Yanoti finished seventh in the triple jump (9.62 meters) and Hudson took eighth in the long jump (4.65 meters).

In the 1,500-meter run, McKnight finished eighth in 5:08.74 and first-year Winny Chen (New York/Brooklyn Technical) placed ninth in 5:09.21.

 

At the predominantly Division I Bison Classic, senior Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) took ninth in the 800-meter run. Her time of 2:14.40 is Division III’s 12th-fastest this season. She also finished 16th in the 1,500-meter run in 4:37.00 (the nation’s 15th-best time).

Graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) took 11th in the 1,500-meter run in 4:33.99 (ranking 11th nationally). Sophomore Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) joined Kowalewski in the top 20 of the 800-meter run, placing 14th in 2:15.05 to post the 17th-best time in the nation.

The Knights recorded two other nationally ranked performances: junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.70 (16th nationally) and first year Shannon Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer) finished 22nd in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 11:29.29 (33rd nationally).

First year Kylie Ryan (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) was 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.70.
