Knights Compete At Two Men's Track & Field Meets

The Geneseo men’s track & field team sent participants to two non-scoring meets – Roberts Wesleyan’s Redhawk Invitational and Bucknell’s Bison Classic.

At Roberts Wesleyan, the Knights recorded nine top-10 efforts, led by a pair of runner-up finishes. Sophomore Luke Taverne (Vernon/Westmoreland) cleared 1.85 meters to place second in the high jump and junior Liam Collins (Troy/Averill) took second in the triple jump (13.11 meters).

Three Knights placed in the top 10 in the 5,00-meter run; sophomore Matt Byrnes was third in 16:07.23, junior Josh Halpern placed seventh in 16:25.40 and first year Mike Custance took 10th in 16:34.57.

Senior Brendan Murphy (Katonah/Iona Prep) was fifth in the hammer throw (44.33 meters), junior Jake Pasanen (Troy/Averill Park) finished seventh in the pole vault (3.60 meters) and first year Alex Hahn was 10th in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.19).

The 400-meter relay team of sophomore Chris Brunscheen, sophomore Marshall DeGarmo (Shoshan/Salem), junior Nicholas Hoffman (Williamsville/Williamsville) and sophomore David Layman (Norwich/Norwich) placed seventh in 47.99.

At the predominantly Division I Bison Classic, senior Chris Carter (Grand Island/Grand Island) recorded the Knights’ top performance. He placed 13th in the 800-meter run; his time of 1:53.63 ranks 14th nationally. Classmate Alex Brimstein (Webster/Webster Thomas) posted the nation’s 15th-fastest time in the 1,500-meter run (3:54.12), finishing 32nd. In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Mike Mattiucci (Webster/Webster Thomas) finished 18th with the nation’s 27th-fastest time (9:31.02).

Senior Jesse Cleary-Krell (Syracuse/Westhill) finished 19th in the 400-meter dash (51.39) and sophomore Benjamin Schwartz (Cortlandt Manor/Hendrick Hudson) was 22nd in 42.01.

First year Cohen Miles-Rath (Cohocton/Wayland-Cohocton) placed 29th in the 5,000-meter run (14:58.65).

Geneseo’s highest finish came from the 1,600-meter relay team of Carter, junior Anthony George (West Seneca West/West Seneca), Cleary-Krell and Schwartz. The quartet placed seventh in 3:25.18.
