Cortland, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s track & field team competed at the non-scoring Cortland Classic Friday and Saturday. The Knights recorded 14 top-10 finishes, including a pair of victories.
Junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) won the 400-meter dash; her time of 58.63 was the program’s second-fastest ever.
Senior Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) was the Knights’ other first-place finisher, winning the 1,500-meter run in 4:37.84. First year Shannon Murphy (Jamestown/Falconer) was sixth in the event in 4:55.81.
Geneseo took two of the top five places in the 800-meter run; graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) was second in 2:21.96 and Kowalewski finished fifth in 2:22.92.
Sophomore Elyssa Slawinski (East Northport/Northport) finished fourth in the hammer throw her mark of 42.85 meters (140-7) is the program’s fourth-best all-time effort. She also placed fifth in the discus, recording Geneseo’s eighth-farthest throw (35.49 meters/116-5). She recorded a third top-10 finish, taking ninth in the shot put (9.82 meters/32-2 3/4.
First year Kylie Ryan (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) was seventh in the steeplechase (13:15.22) and sophomore Kristen Gottstine (Tillson/Kingston) placed eighth in the 100-meter dash in 14.13.
In the triple jump, juniors Samantha Hudson (Victor/Victor) and Diana Dorothy Yanoti finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Hudson cleared 9.71 meters (31-10 1/4) and Yanoti exceeded 9.61 meters (31-6 1/2).
Senior Jessica Shumway (Potsdam/Potsdam) finished eighth in the high jump with a mark of 1.43 meters (4-8 1/4). Junior Danelle Turney rounded out the Knights’ top-10 finishers. She was 10th in the discus throw (28.85 meters/94-8).
