Two Wins At Cortland Classic For Men's Track & Field

Cortland, N.Y. – The Geneseo men’s track & field team competed at the non-scoring Cortland Classic Friday and Saturday. The Knights recorded 21 top-10 finishes, including a pair of victories.

Geneseo took the top two spots in the high jump with sophomore Phil Longo (Dansville/Dansville) clearing 1.90 meters (6-2 3/4) to win and classmate Adrian Bergere (Bethlehem/Delmar) second with a mark of 1.80 meters (5-10 3/4).

The Knights’ other individual victory came in the 10,000-meter run with sophomore Chaz Abad (East Setauket/Ward Melville) placing first in 33:15.28. He was joined in the top 10 by first year Anthony Pivarunas, sixth in 34:19.24 and junior Josh Halpern, eighth in 34:42.39. 

Senior Brendan Murphy (Katonah/Iona Prep) took fifth in the shot put (13.00 meters/42-8) and sixth in the hammer throw (47.55 meters/156-0). His mark in the hammer is Geneseo’s fifth-best performance ever and his shot put effort ranks ninth on the program’s all-time list. 

Senior Alex Brimstein (Webster/Thomas) was second in the steeplechase (10:05.47) with first year Brendan Wortner (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) third in 10:10.83 and senior Robert Harmon (Milford/Cooperstown) ninth in 10:30.61.

In the 1,500-meter run, senior Chris Carter (Grand Island/Grand Island) placed second in 4:03.59 and sophomore Billy Gabriel (Syracuse/West Genesee) finished sixth in 4:04.99. 

Bergere took seventh in the javelin throw (42.40 meters/139-1) and ninth in the long jump (6.17 meters/20-3) and sophomore Devon Anderson (Plattsburgh/Beekmantown) placed seventh in the discus throw (39.49 meters/129-7).

In the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Christian Igielinski (Perrysburg/Gowanda) placed sixth in 59.70 and first year Alex Hahn was eighth in 1:00.30. 

Junior Anthony George (West Seneca West/West Seneca) finished ninth in the 400-meter dash (51.97); junior Nick Hoffman (Williamsville/Williamsville South) took 10th in the 110-meter hurdles (20.09) and sophomore Kent Upham placed 10th in the 5,000-meter run (16:05.03). 

First year Aidan Fullerton (Yorktown/Yorktown) rounded out Geneseo’s top-10 finishers; he was 10th in the decathlon, scoring 4,689 points.
