New York, N.Y. – The Geneseo women’s tennis team (14-2) lost 5-4 at New York University (4-3) Saturday in a match between regionally ranked opponents. The Knights are 15th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Northeast Regional ranking and the Violets are 18th.
Sophomore Zakiyyah Abdus-Salaam (Mount Vernon/The Ursuline School) remained unbeaten on the season, raising her overall record to 21-0. She posted a straight-set win at sixth singles and teamed with sophomore Minxuan Yuan (Flushing/Benjamin Cardozo) to win at third singles, where the pair is 8-0 this year.
Sophomore Amanda Rosati (Albany/Academy of the Holy Names) and senior Sarah Shields (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris) picked up Geneseo’s other wins. Rosati rallied for a fourth singles win to improve to 12-1 in singles competition and 25-4 overall. Shields’ straight-set victory at fifth singles raised her overall mark to 25-4 (including a 13-1 singles mark).
The Knights play a noon match at Hunter.
