GENESEO, N.Y. – The Geneseo softball team (19-15, 11-5 SUNYAC) split a doubleheader with visiting Oswego (15-15, 8-8 SUNYAC) Friday, winning game one 4-2 and falling 10-3 in the nightcap of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader.
Geneseo’s first four batters reached base in the first as the Knights jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
Sophomore shortstop Samantha Brown (Canton/Hugh C. Williams), senior third baseman Jessica Steubing (Fairport/Fairport) and first year Mikayla Moore (Stillwater/Stillwater) each singled in a run in the third.
Sophomore catcher Ashley Fillmore (Getzville/Williamsville North) scored an unearned run in the fifth to put the Knights up 4-1.
Brown finished with two of Geneseo’s six hits.
Senior Katie Gallagher (Gansevoort/Schuylerville) earned the win, striking out four batters and allowing five hits over five innings. Sophomore Corrin Spallone (Greece/Greece Arcadia) picked up her second save of the season with two hits of one-hit relief.
In game two, the visiting Lakers scored five runs in the top of the first to take control. The Knights collected nine hits. Trapasso extended her hitting streak with a run-scoring single in the first inning and Moore hit a sacrifice fly in the second.
Trapasso and sophomore second baseman Jenna Reilley (Williamsville/East) both collected two hits.
The Knights host Cortland in a noon doubleheader Saturday.
