GENESEO, N.Y. -- The #22 Geneseo women's lacrosse team (11-4, 5-3 SUNYAC) ran its winning streak to six games Saturday, closing its regular season with a 21-3 win over New Paltz. The Knights will be the third seed in next week's State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Tournament and will open competition against second-seeded Fredonia Friday at 3 p.m. The tournament will be hosted by top-seeded Cortland.
Geneseo scored 17 first-half goals, including five by junior attack Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill). Buonocore’s five points raised her career total to 201, making her the third Knight to reach the 200-point plateau.
Senior attack Jen Costanza (Webster/Schroeder) and junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) both scored three goals. Haggerty, the team’s leading scorer this spring with 60 points, is now tied for sixth on the program’s all-time list with 110 goals.
Junior attack Meredith Weber (Bellport/Bellport) and senior midfielder Lea Paris (Henrietta/Rush-Henrietta) both finished with a goal and an assist.
A total of 11 Knights scored either a goal or an assist, including senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) who recorded the first goal of her career.
Junior midfielder Kylie Caesar (Delmar/Bethlehem) and sophomore attack Katie Hart (Syracuse/West Genesee) both scored a pair of goals.
Haggerty won a game-high six draw controls and Caesar added five. Costanza led the Knights with a pair of ground balls.
Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) and sophomore Laura Passamonte (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) both made three saves in goal.
