#22 Geneseo Drops SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Final To #4 Cortland

Cortland, N.Y. – The #22 Geneseo women's lacrosse team (12-5) dropped a 12-5 decision to #4 Cortland in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) final Saturday. 

The host Red Dragons recorded the game’s first three goals before sophomore Katey Hart (Syracuse/West Genesee) scored a pair of goals two minutes apart to pull the Knights to within a goal. A 5-1 Cortland run over the next 27 minutes sealed the win for the Red Dragons.

Junior attack Caroline Buonocore (Syracuse/Westhill) scored two second-half goals and junior midfielder Kylie Caesar (Delmar/Bethlehem) picked up Geneseo’s final goal.

Senior Julie Bernatzky (Mount Sinai/Mount Sinai) stopped 12 shots in goal, raising her career total to 309 saves and becoming the fifth Knight to make 300 in her career.

Junior midfielder Emily Haggerty (Syracuse/Westhill) won three draw controls to lead Geneseo.

Caesar and senior midfielder Rachel Petrone (Rochester/Penfield) both picked up a team-leading three ground balls.

Bernatzky, Haggerty and senior defender Jenna Theofield (East Northport/Northport) were named to the all-tournament team.
