GENESEO, N.Y, -- The Geneseo women's tennis team (15-3) will open NCAA Championship Tournament competition against New Jersey (15-2) in a regional quarterfinal match hosted by Amherst Friday at a time to be announced.
The winner of the Geneseo-New Jersey match will face Skidmore (12-8), who received a bye, in the regional semifinal. The regional's other quarterfinal features Wilkes (18-2) against Mount St. Mary (12-0), with the winner facing host Amherst (17-2) in the semifinal round.
The Knights qualified for the NCAA playoffs by winning the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) title. They are making their fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament in the last five years; the 2009 and 2012 teams both advanced to the regional semifinals.
Geneseo and New Jersey played each other in their final regular-season match; the host Lions posted a 6-3 win.
