Track & Field Competes At Oneonta

Oneonta – The Geneseo track & field teams competed at Oneonta’s May Meet.

Senior Chris Carter (Grand Island/Grand Island) highlighted the Knights’ performance at the non-scoring meet, setting a school record in the 800-meter run. His third-place time of 1:52.03 was the best by a Division III runner in the meet and ranks 13th nationally this spring.

Sophomore Billy Gabriel (Syracuse/West Genesee) placed 14th in 1:56.03.

Junior Liam Collins (Troy/Averill Park) finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.53 meters.

Senior Mike Mattiucci (Webster/Thomas) was third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:52.01) and sophomore Luke Taverne (Vernon/Westmoreland) took third in the high jump (1.93 meters). First year Cohen Miles-Rath (Cohocton/Wayland-Cohocton) finished sixth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:02.41.

On the women’s side, graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) was second in the 5,000-meter run. Her time of 17:08.17 is Geneseo’s second-fastest time ever and ranks 21st nationally this season.

Senior Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) won the 1,500-meter run in 4:35.36 with senior Emma DeShaies third in 4:53.74 and sophomore Cassie Goodman (Phelps/Midlakes) ninth in 4:59.36.

Sophomore Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma) was the runner-up in the 800-meter run (2:15.02).

Senior Jessica Shumway (Potsdam/Potsdam) finished seventh in the high jump with a mark of 1.53 meters (5-0 1/4) and sophomore Elyssa Slawinski (East Northport/Northport) placed eighth in the shot put with a mark of 10.26 meters (33-8).
