Cortland, N.Y. – Two members of the Geneseo softball team (22-20) have been named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) all-star team. Sophomore Samantha Brown (Canton/Hugh C. Williams) and junior Samantha Trapasso (Garden City/Garden City) were both first-team choices as infielders.
Brown started all but one game for the Knights at shortstop and led the team with 55 hits. She batted .401 with 38 runs scored, 12 stolen bases and an on-base percentage of .453 (ranking second on the team in all four categories). Brown also led Geneseo with three triples and hit 10 doubles while driving in 27 runs from the second spot in the line-up. She ranked among the conference leaders in half a dozen categories, finishing third in the SUNYAC in triples, fourth in runs, firth in batting average and stolen bases , sixth in total bases, eighth in on-base percentage and ninth in doubles.
A first-team all-conference and all-region selection last spring, Trapasso was one of the conference’s top power hitters, leading the SUNYAC with a .740 slugging percentage and 45 runs batted in. She led Geneseo in both categories, as well as in batting average (.423), on-base percentage (.467), home runs (eight), doubles (13), total bases (91) and extra-base hits (22). Trapasso ranked second in the league in doubles, home runs and total bases and ranked third with 52 hits. In 107 career games, she’s hitting .398 with 16 home runs and 87 runs batted in. She’s tied for the program’s all-time home run record and her .673 slugging percentage is Geneseo’s highest ever.
The Knights posted an 11-7 SUNYAC record, earning the fourth seed for the conference playoffs before advancing to the league final.
