Geneseo Kicks Off ECAC Track & Field Competition

Springfield, Mass. – The Geneseo track & field teams opened two days of competition at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships Thursday. Both the men’s and women’s teams are in 28th place in the team standings.

Three Knights competed in the women’s 5,000-meter run. Sophomore Joanna Castrogiovanni (Smithtown/West) led the way with a sixth-place finish in 17:55.28. Sophomore Cassie Goodman (Phelps/Midlakes) was 13th in 18:20.14 and junior Rebekah Steinke (Lima/Honeoye Falls-Lima) placed 14th in 18:22.07.

First year Ashton Hughes (Fairport/Fairport) finished 17th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase; her time of 11:39.04 is the program’s ninth-fastest ever.

On the men’s side, first year Cohen Miles-Rath (Cohocton/Wayland-Cohocton) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 15:14.65.

Geneseo’s other first-day qualifier, junior Liam Collins (Troy/Averill Park), took 23rd in the triple jump with a mark of 12.94 meters (42-5 1/2).

Competition concludes at the two-day event, hosted by Springfield, Friday.
