GENESEO, N.Y. – Four members of the Geneseo women’s track & field team and two members of the men’s track & field team have qualified for this weekend’s NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The NCAA Championships, hosted by Wisconsin-La Crosse, run from Thursday through Saturday.
On the women’s side, graduate student Alyssa Smith (Rochester/Brighton) qualified in two events. She’s seeded second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:32.02 and is the 17th seed in the 5,000-meter run (17:08.17). Junior Allison Hoh (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) is seeded fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.95. In the 1,500-meter run, senior Cailin Kowalewski (Fredonia/Fredonia) is seeded ninth with a time of 4:31.14. Sophomore Keira Wood (Lake Ronkonkoma/Sachem North) is seeded 21st in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.82.
On the men’s side, seniors Alex Brimstein (Webster/Thomas) and Chris Carter (Grand Island/Grand Island) are seeded 16th in the 5,000-meter run and 800-meter run, respectively. Brimstein’s time is 14:27.23 and Carter’s time is 1:52.03.
Kowalewski, Hoh, Smith and Wood all earned all-America honors at the NCAA Indoor Championships in March as the third-place distance medley relay team. Smith also earned all-America honors in the 2011 steeplechase.
Brimstein and Carter were half of Geneseo’s third-place distance medley relay team at indoor nationals. Brimstein also earned all-America honors in cross country this year, placing 10th at the NCAA Championships.
