GENESEO, N.Y. – Tim Volkmann, currently an assistant director of athletics at the United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., has been named director of athletic communications and media relations at the State University of New York at Geneseo, effective June 6. Volkmann also is director of annual giving for the Army A Club, the fundraising arm of the Army Athletic Association. "We are excited to welcome Tim to the Geneseo family," said Mike Mooney, director of intercollegiate athletics and recreation at Geneseo. "
He has a breadth and depth of experience that will enable him to provide strategic direction to our athletic communications efforts while highlighting the outstanding achievements of our student-athletes in the playing arena, in the classroom, and in the community."
Before his current position,Volkmann spent three years as assistant director of athletic communications and director of media event management at West Point. Before that, he was coordinator of sports communications for two years at the University of Rhode Island and assistant sports communications director at Springfield College for six years, where he served two periods as interim sports information director. He also was sports information director for a year at SUNY Oneonta.
Volkmann is a native Western New Yorker, having grown up in the Rochester suburb of Fairport. He earned a master's degree in athletic administration at Springfield College and a bachelor's degree in communications studies, with a journalism concentration, at SUNY Cortland, where he was editor-in-chief of the student newspaper his senior year. After graduating, he completed an internship as a publicist for the State University of New York Athletic Conference.
