Davey To Step Down As SUNYAC Commissioner

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced that Azure Davey will be stepping down as Commissioner to pursue a position with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Davey’s official end date will be determined after further discussion with the SUNYAC Board of Directors leadership but is anticipated to be sometime in early July.

Davey was appointed as the second Commissioner of the SUNYAC succeeding Dr. Patrick R. Damore who retired in July 2012.

Over the past year, Davey oversaw the Conference Office move to its present central location at SUNY Cortland, instituted a conference-wide review of sport operating procedures and began the process of codifying additional championships protocols.

Davey came to the SUNYAC from the NCAA National Office, where she served in the Academic and Membership Affairs Department from 2006-2012.  While at the National Office, she worked primarily in Division III governance, policy and legislation.  Azure will return to the National Office as the Director of Academic and Membership Affairs with a focus on Division I academics and will work with the Committee on Academic Performance (CAP).
