Women's Soccer Announces 2013 Schedule

GENESEO, N.Y. –The SUNY Geneseo women’s soccer team recently announced its schedule for the 2013 season. Eighth-year head coach Nate Wiley and the Knights will play a slate that includes five home dates as well as nine matches against their State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) peers.

“We are all looking forward to the coming season and getting back on the field in the coming weeks,” said Wiley. “Some of the new opponents we added this year are coming off NCAA Tournament appearances in 2012 and will help increase our already tough strength of schedule.”

After preseason scrimmages at William Smith (Aug. 21) and RIT (Aug. 23), the regular season will kick off with two matches at the Farmingdale Tournament (Aug.30-31) against a field that will include the host Rams, Skidmore and Western Connecticut. The following weekend, Geneseo will square off against Nazareth (Sept. 6) and St. John Fisher (Sept. 7) in the Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament hosted by Brockport.

Following a midweek trip to Houghton (Sept. 11), the Knights will open the home portion of the campaign against visiting Lycoming (Sept. 14). Four-straight road contests will then await, including RIT (Sept. 18), St. Lawrence (Sept. 21), and back-to-back conference rivals Buffalo State (Sept. 27) and Fredonia (Sept. 28).

Geneseo will then play four of its next five opponents in the friendly confines of Saratoga Field, hosting SUNYAC foes Oneonta (Oct. 4), New Paltz (Oct. 5), Cortland (Oct. 18) and Oswego (Oct. 19) sandwiched around a short trip back to Brockport to take on the Golden Eagles (Oct. 12).

The Knights will finish the regular season with three road matches, including two final SUNYAC tilts at Potsdam (Oct. 25), Plattsburgh (Oct. 26), before taking on host Elmira (Oct. 29) in preparation for the conference tournament scheduled to start Nov. 2.

Geneseo finished the 2012 season with a 3-10-3 record, including a 2-5-2 tally in the SUNYAC. It marked only the fifth time in the 32-year history of the program the Knights finished with a record under .500 and first time since 2007 it totaled fewer than 11 victories. Wiley’s overall record in seven seasons since taking the reins in 2006 stands at 68-43-12 (.602), ranking him second all-time in program wins and third in winning percentage.
