GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo women’s tennis coach Jim Chen released the upcoming slate for the 2013-14 campaign, Wednesday. The two-time defending State University of New York Athletic Confernece (SUNYAC) Champion Knights will play another challenging schedule in preparation for a run at their fourth conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance in the last five years.
“Once again, I have tried to schedule as many of the top teams in the region as possible to continue testing our student-athletes’ preparation,” said the 2013 SUNYAC Coach of the Year. “Being able to play against this level of competition on a regular basis is a testament to how hard the team has worked and what we have been able to achieve over the past several years.”
Following a trip to SUNYAC rival Oswego (Aug. 30) to start the season, Geneseo will welcome Nazareth to campus for the home-opener (Sept. 5). After trips to Geneva, N.Y. to participate in the William Smith Tournament (Sept. 7-8) and conference foe Brockport (9/10), the Knights will start a stretch of four consecutive SUNYAC home matches against New Paltz (Sept. 13), Oneonta (Sept. 14), Fredonia (Sept. 18) and Cortland (Sept. 20).
The squad will wrap up the month at the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament, hosted by William Smith (Sept. 28-30), before traveling east to take on host Rensselaer (Oct. 5) and Division-I Siena (Oct. 6) in back-to-back matches. The following weekend, the SUNYAC title will once again be contested at the Binghamton Tennis Center (Oct. 11-13) to close out the fall.
The Knights will resume competition during the spring semester with a to-be-determined spring break trip south (March 18-20) before returning home with a match opposite Roberts Wesleyan (April 3). The team will then play road matches at Hamilton (April 9), Rochester (April 10) and NYU (April 12) with a home match then slated against William Smith (April 16).
Geneseo will then wrap up the regular season with a trip to take on The College of New Jersey (April 26) in a rematch of last year’s NCAA Division III Tournament opening-round match (won by TCNJ, 5-3).
