'Fountain of Youth' is Wind Ensemble's Theme for Joint Concert with Jazz Ensemble April 23

GENESEO, N.Y. - The "Fountain of Youth" will be the Geneseo Wind Ensemble's theme when it performs a joint concert with the college's Jazz Ensemble April 23 at 8 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium on campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Ensemble will be conducted by James Walker, distinguished service professor of music. Student conductors Jesses Kinne and Louis Lohraseb also will participate in the concert. The group will feature works such as the Overture for Band by Felix Mendelssohn, written when the composer was 14; the Finale to the Symphony No. 1 in E-flat by Camille Saint Saens, written when he was 16; and the premiere of James Walker's L'Homme Armé march based on an early cantus firmus from the Renaissance.

The Monday Night Jazz Ensemble, with guest conductor Jonathan Kruger, will feature music in the Big Band Style, featuring works by some of America's top jazz ensemble composers.
