Geneseo Wind and Jazz Ensembles Set for April 8 Performance

GENESEO, N.Y. - The Geneseo Wind Ensemble and Thursday Night Jazz Ensemble, featuring alumnus percussionist Nathanial Gworek, performs April 8 at 8 p.m. in the college's Wadsworth Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Ensemble, conducted by James Walker, distinguished service professor of music, will feature works such as "Folk Song Suite" by Ralph Vaughan Williams, "Sussex Psalm" by Russell Howland, "Lads of Wamphray" Percy Grainger and the "Concerto for Percussion" by Darius Milhaud.

"Concerto for Percussion" will be performed by performed by Gworek, a 2010 Geneseo graduate.

"Nate did such a fine job here as an undergraduate, winning spots on the Concerto Competition Concert with the Geneseo Symphony Orchestra, and as a fine performer with all ensembles, that I invited him back as a soloist in the Milhaud Concerto," said Walker.

"It's a percussionist's dream as a piece, and I'm sure Nate will play the proverbial ‘stuffings' out of it!" said Walker.

The Geneseo Thursday Night Jazz Ensemble, led by Director Jonathan Kruger, will feature  "Off the Hook" by J. Jarvis, "Orange Colored Sky" by W. Stein, "Out Of Nowhere" by E. Heyman and "Beyond The Sea" by C. Trenet.
