College Health Professionals to Gather for Symposium May 21

GENESEO, N.Y. -- SUNY Geneseo's Lauderdale Center for Student Health and Counseling and the New York State College Health Association are sponsoring a College Health Symposium May 21 for professionals at area colleges involved with student health services. The day-long program will be at the Big Tree Inn in Geneseo and requires advance registration.

The event will focus on best practices to recognize and respond to students experiencing sexual assault and stalking, trends in synthetic drug abuse, wound healing, and the recognition and recovery of students with eating disorders. Those attending will receive continuing education credits.

Four presenters are scheduled to address the symposium, including Jennifer Katz, associate professor of psychology at Geneseo; Don Hassett, director of prevention services at the Council on Alcohol and Substance Abuse of Livingston County; Thomas Walters, M.D.; Kathy Brown, RN, MN, CWOCN; and Suzanne Bumpus, RN, MS, FNP-C.

Also during the program will be a showcase of best practices in college health and counseling and health promotion.
