GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo’s Tremont String Quartet, an acclaimed in-residence ensemble, will present the first concert in the college’s new recital hall Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. The recital hall is in the recently renovated Doty Hall, Geneseo’s new administration building. The concert is free and open to the public.
Pianist Jonathan Gonder, professor and chair of the Department of Music, and violist Benjamin Magruder, an Eastman School of Music student, will join the quartet in performing Mozart’s String Quintet #4 and Brahams’ Piano Quintet in G-minor.
Quartet members are Richard Balkin and Laura Balkin (violins), Samantha Rodriguez (viola); and James Kirkwood (cello).
The Tremont has distinguished itself with critically acclaimed performances of standard and contemporary American repertory throughout North America and has numerous recordings to its credit.
