Presidential Scholars Exemplify Geneseo Values


GENESEO, N.Y. -- The State University of New York at Geneseo's 15 Presidential Scholars for the 2011-12 academic year represent a variety of academic areas and exemplify the college's institutional values. A presidential scholar is a top-achieving member of the incoming senior class who also serves as an ambassador for the college.

To receive the honor, a student must hold a minimum grade point average of 3.6 and demonstrate academic achievement across the curriculum affirming Geneseo's values of excellence and innovation. Examples of such achievement could be involvement in major directed studies, substantial overseas studies, independent research, conference presentations, significant artistic projects and/or record of creativity. They also must demonstrate an active involvement with the community.

The following students are Geneseo Presidential Scholars for 2011-12 academic year (all hometowns are in New York unless otherwise noted):

Elizabeth Barber, an English and international relations major from Schenectedy; Kaitlyn Gayvert, a mathematics major from Fairport; Jesse Goldberg, an English and philosophy major from Lake Ronkonkoma; Donna Hanrahan, a political science and French major from Massapequa; Matthew Harris, a philosophy major from Piscataway, N.J.; Kristen Kolb, a psychology major from Cortlandt Manor; Rebecca Kreuzer, a geological sciences major from Honeoye Falls; Kristina Licatese, a Spanish major from Oswego; Rebecca Meissner, a physics and Spanish major from Hamburg; Benjamin Peterson, a biochemistry major from Nekossa, Wisc.; Vishal Rajput, an accounting major from Maharashtra, India; Abigail Sayler, a childhood/special education major from Baldwinsville; Hannah Schmidt, an English and art history major from Putnam Valley; Erik Sweet, a biochemistry major from Lima; and Olga Varechtchouk, a biology major from Webster.

Presidential Scholars are nominated by faculty members and reviewed by a panel of faculty and students before being recommended to the provost for final approval.
