Kiplinger's Ranks Geneseo Among Top Colleges in the Country

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo is ranked third for out-of-state students and 11th for in-state students in Kiplinger's Personal Finance magazine's 2012 list of best values among the nation's public four-year colleges. The rankings cite four-year schools that combine outstanding education with economic value.

The annual list of the top 100 schools are available in Kiplinger's February 2012 issue and online.

"In tough economic times, Geneseo remains committed to providing the highest quality undergraduate learning experience possible, and our strong showing in the Kiplinger rankings validates that," said Bill Caren, associate vice president for enrollment services. "We continue to attract strong students and faculty to our campus who excel in many ways, and we are pleased that independent parties recognize the value of a Geneseo education."

Geneseo's current in-state tuition is $5,270 per year with total costs of about $17,200. For out-of-state students, the figures rise to $14,320 and $26,250, respectively.

"As states cut funding for higher education and tuition continues to climb, the word ‘value' is more significant than ever," said Jane Bennett Clark, senior editor at Kiplinger's Personal Finance. "This year's top 100 public schools deliver strong academics at reasonable prices. We applaud these institutions for tightening their belts without compromising quality."

Student quality indicators abound at Geneseo. Four seniors received Chancellor's Awards for Student Excellence last May. This year's entering class had a mean SAT score of 1330 and a mean high school GPA of 94. More than half ranked in the top 10 percent of their high school classes.

Geneseo's faculty continue to receive accolades for their work. In the past three years, for example, 17 faculty members have received a Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Forty-two faculty members have received SUNY distinguished professorships since 1973.
