Alumnus Bryan Sawyer Wins National TV Program's Top-Teacher Search

GENESEO, N.Y. - Geneseo alumnus Bryan Sawyer, a 2002 SUNY Geneseo School of Education graduate, has won the 3rd Annual Top Teacher Search from the nationally syndicated television program "Live! With Kelly." Sawyer is a special education teacher for grades 2 and 3 at Karigon Elementary School in Clifton Park, N.Y. He was among 12 teachers from across the country competing for the honor.

Show host Kelly Ripa thanked Sawyer for the service he provides his special education students and parents.

"We want them to do as much as they can," said Sawyer on the show. "They are part of our school and community and if we set the bar high for them, there is no limit to what they can do."

In the annual competition, the program searches for teachers who make a difference in and out of the classroom. Teachers are eligible from public and private schools, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Sawyer was nominated by a parent of twin boys with autism.

The school will receive a $25,000 donation and Sawyer wins a new car and a trip for him and his wife.
