Vice President Bonfiglio Receives ACPA Excellence in Practice Award

GENESEO, N.Y. - Robert Bonfiglio, vice president for student and campus life at SUNY Geneseo, has received the 2013 American College Personnel Association's (ACPA) Excellence in Practice Award. The award is presented to practitioners whose designs and program implementations as well as services for their campuses are based on the best national practices in student affairs. The association honors practitioners who have been responsible for achievements that impact a campus for a sustained period of time (5-10 years).

Bonfiglio came to Geneseo as vice president for student and campus life in 1999 and has since led the division in a number of initiatives that have had a significant impact on the student experience at the college. Among them:

- The Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development Program, which has received national recognition as an exemplary model for broadly engaging students in leadership development and in documenting student learning outside of the classroom.
- As a part of the college's efforts to prevent student sexual violence, a bystander intervention training program was integrated into the new student orientation program.
- In an example of collaboration between student and academic affairs, "Real World Geneseo" provides a living and learning experience with students, faculty and staff to promote cultural competence through engaged learning.

In a 2012 accreditation review by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, the closing summary noted that Geneseo's Division of Student and Campus Life could serve as a model for the collection and reporting of student affairs learning outcomes.
