2013 -14 Presidential Scholars Announced




















GENESEO, N.Y.
– Fifteen SUNY Geneseo students are Presidential Scholars for the 2013-14 academic year, representing a variety of academic areas and exemplifying the college's institutional values. A presidential scholar is a top-achieving member of the senior class who also serves as an ambassador for the college.

To receive the honor, a student must hold a minimum grade point average of 3.6 and demonstrate academic achievement across the curriculum, affirming Geneseo's values of excellence and innovation. Examples of such achievement could be involvement in major directed studies, substantial overseas studies, independent research, conference presentations, significant artistic projects and/or record of creativity. They also must demonstrate an active involvement with the community.

The following students are Geneseo Presidential Scholars for 2013-14 academic year (all hometowns are in New York):

Sarah Ackerman, a biochemistry and mathematics major from Stony Brook; Kristen Balschunat, a geography major from Queensbury; Laura Duclos, a biology major from Clifton Park; Drew Ellison, a physics and mathematics major from Lake Ronkonkoma; Joseph Geraghty, a biochemistry and Spanish major from West Islip; Carolyn Levinn, a chemistry major from East Nassau; Michael Nellist, a chemistry major from Rochester; Rachel Olin, a psychology major from Oceanside; Rena Pazienza, a psychology and philosophy major from Castleton; Christopher Pike, a business administration and international relations major from Pittsford; Elyssa Ramirez, a musical theater major from Yonkers; Emily Redington, a biochemistry major from Averill Park; Martin Rogachefsky, a political science and economics major from Rochester; Herbert Susmann, a computer science major from Ithaca; and Suraj Uttamchandani, a mathematics major from Dix Hills.

Presidential Scholars are nominated by faculty members and reviewed by a panel of faculty and students before being recommended to the provost for final approval.
