CALENDAR OF EVENTS FOR OCT. 14-20

THURSDAY, OCT. 14:

FILM: The Alan Lutkus International Film Series presents the film "Kamchatka." In Spanish with English subtitles. Marcelo Piñeyro’s marvelously touching, Oscar-nominated film of a family who hides out in a suburb of Buenos Aires while struggling to stay together in Argentina immediately after the 1976 coup d’état, when thousands of Argentineans (men and women, and even babies) "disappeared" for speaking out against the new regime. With gentle humor, Piñeyro’s film examines politically charged fears through the lens of the protagonist family’s children. The discussant is Rose McEwen of the foreign languages and literatures department. 7 p.m., Bailey Hall Auditorium (135). Free and open to the public.

WADSWORTH LECTURE: Jon Meacham, Newsweek managing editor and author of "Franklin and Winston: An Intimate Portrait of an Epic Friendship," will deliver the 15th annual James Jeremiah Wadsworth Lecture. Named "one of the most influential editors in the news magazine business" by The New York Times, Jon Meacham, at the age of 29, became managing editor of Newsweek. He oversees Newsweek’s coverage of politics, international affairs and breaking news. The lecture is titled "Ballots and Bullets: The Politics of War, from FDR and Churchill to Bush and Kerry." 8 p.m., Wadsworth Auditorium. Free and open to the public.

FRIDAY, OCT. 15:

OPUS GALLERY EXHIBIT: The Opus Gallery in the MacVittie College Union presents Rochester area artist Jean Stephens. There will be an opening reception from 4-6 p.m. The gallery is open daily from 1-5 p.m. Free and open to the public. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Oct. 31.

SPORTS: Men’s Soccer vs. Buffalo State. 3 p.m., Saratoga Field. Free and open to the public.

SPORTS: Men’s Hockey vs. Neumann. 7 p.m., Wilson Ice Arena. Admission at the door is $3 for the general public; $2 for non-SUNY Geneseo students; and free for SUNY Geneseo students.
