GENESEO, N.Y. -- It just became significantly easier for SUNY Geneseo alumni to stay in touch with each other.
The college's Office of Alumni Relations has launched a new online community, U-Knight, for alumni to stay in touch with friends, to network and to receive timely information about Geneseo events and other campus activities. The name is derived from the Geneseo athletic team nickname -- the Blue Knights.
"We are very excited to offer this wonderful new tool," says Rose Anderson, assistant vice president for alumni relations. "It's an extremely powerful program yet easy to use that will serve our alumni in multiple ways. Anything having to do with Geneseo alumni will be on the site and available 24/7."
U-Knight membership is open to all Geneseo alumni and will be available to students in the college's current graduating class this spring. The membership never expires and alumni will have the option of acquiring a permanent Geneseo email that can route information to Gmail, Yahoo or other email accounts.
"It's a permanent email forwarding address so even if you change your outside email, you will always have that Geneseo.edu address," says Fran Zablocki, the college's online community manager, responsible for developing and maintaining U-Knight. "It will also help our alumni to join the official Geneseo network on Facebook, which requires a geneseo.edu email."
Zablocki and his colleagues spent two years developing U-Knight and will continue to expand the initiative, including a mentorship network to connect alumni with talented undergraduate students seeking advice or experience in their field.
Geneseo has more than 50,000 alumni in the world. More details about U-Knight are available in the fall edition of the college's alumni magazine, Geneseo Scene, or online at go.geneseo.edu/uknight.
