DiCarlo Joining Geneseo to Expand Internship Opportunities

GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo is reinforcing its support for student career development with the addition of Robert H. DiCarlo as associate director for internship opportunities.

DiCarlo begins his duties June 6 and will be responsible for expanding the number and type of substantive internship opportunities available to Geneseo students. He comes to the college after 23 years at SUNY Brockport, the last eight as assistant director for career services.

"Geneseo has embraced the goal that each student is afforded the opportunity to engage in high impact, active learning experiences, and the addition of Rob to our career development staff will accelerate the fulfillment of this goal," said Robert Bonfiglio, vice president for student and campus life. "He will be working closely with our alumni across the country and others with first-hand knowledge of the caliber of students who attend Geneseo and what they can bring to the workforce. We are especially pleased with the level of experience Rob has in developing internships, and look forward to him applying that experience to support our students' career aspirations."

DiCarlo will oversee all aspects of the college's internship program, including faculty and department collaboration, student career advising and program evaluation. The college's recently established national Alumni Council has made student career development an organizational priority and is focused on engaging Geneseo alumni in all walks of life in the initiative.

"I am excited and humbled to be joining Geneseo, considered the most competitive four-year school in the SUNY system," said DiCarlo. "Internships have the ability to transform the undergraduate student and the liberal arts experience. In today's competitive market, an internship can positively impact employment, job readiness, entry to graduate school and student self-awareness. After 23 years at The College at Brockport, I am eager to share my experiences and expertise to help ensure Geneseo's goal of providing all students with at least one high-impact learning experience during their careers at Geneseo."

DiCarlo earned his master's degree in public administration at SUNY Brockport and bachelor's degree in political science from Hartwick College. He received the President's Award for Outstanding Service at Brockport in 2007.

DiCarlo lives in West Irondequoit with his wife, Janine, and their three children: Sophie, Nicholas and Patrick.
