GENESEO, N.Y. -- SUNY Geneseo graduate Anne Clark Bartlett, who is now professor and chair of the English department at DePaul University, will deliver Geneseo's Phi Beta Kappa lecture Feb. 15. The lecture, titled "Thirty Years of ‘Hard Times': A Sometimes-Dickensian Journey from University Student to Administrator and Back Again," is set for 2:30 p.m. in Newton Hall Room 204 and is open to the public without charge. A reception will follow.

The lecture will be carried live on the college's radio station, WGSU 89.3 FM.

Bartlett earned her bachelor's degree in English from Geneseo in 1987 and her doctorate at the University of Iowa in 1993 and has taught at DePaul University ever since. She also is a 2011-12 American Council on Education Fellow, hosted by Portland State University.

Her research interests include medieval religious literature by and for women, visionary literature, and the representation of statecraft and governance in late medieval chivalric romances. Her books include: "Male Authors, Female Readers: Representation and Subjectivity in Middle English Devotional Literature;" "Vox Mystica: Essays in Honor of Prof. Valerie Lagorio" (edited collection); and "Cultures of Piety; Middle English Devotional Literature in Translation" (edited collection). In addition, she has published essays on Lady Margaret Beaufort and her books, "Margery Kempe," "Hildegard of Bingen" and contemporary autobiographical criticism.

Bartlett was elected for two terms as President of DePaul's University Faculty Council. She has also filled leadership roles in organizations such as the Society for Medieval Feminist Scholarship, the Medieval Academy of America and the MLA's Association of Departments of English.

Bartlett's presentation is sponsored by the SUNY Geneseo Phi Beta Kappa chapter and the Office of the President of the College. Founded in 1776, Phi Beta Kappa is the nation's oldest undergraduate honors society. Geneseo is the only undergraduate college in the SUNY system to be granted a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The Alpha Delta of New York chapter was installed in January, 2004.
