Regional Gallery Directors Forum Hosting Collaborative ‘Thaw’ Exhibitions


GENESEO, N.Y. -- A collaboration of Rochester-area art galleries and museums, including those at SUNY Geneseo, is hosting exhibitions through March focused on the theme of "Thaw" to usher in the warmer days of spring in the northeastern United States. The public is invited to attend the numerous opening receptions for the exhibitions.

Each gallery or museum is culling its own artists from around the country or region to illustrate the theme and explore a diversity of artistic expressions and media while displaying the richness of the Rochester region's gallery, museum and cultural spaces.

Among the exhibitions scheduled through March:


• Bertha V.B. Lederer Gallery (SUNY Geneseo): "From the Studio: 2012 Faculty Exhibition," Jan. 27 - March 3. Opening reception Jan. 26, 5 - 7 p.m.
• Strong National Museum of Play (One Manhattan Square, Rochester, N.Y.): "The Wizard of Oz"
• Art Center at Nazareth College (Pittsford, N.Y.): "Enlightened Earth: The Ceramics Invitational, in Rochester, N.Y.


• Lockhart Gallery (26 Main St., Geneseo, N.Y.): "Flora and Fauna: Narrative through Iconography"
• Hungerford Artists Building (1115 E. Main St., Rochester, N.Y.): Crocus Clay Works of Michael Carlson
• Studio 34 Creative Arts Center and Gallery (34 Elton St., Rochester, N.Y.): Faculty and student exhibit through April 1. Opening reception Feb. 3, 6 - 8 p.m. Tours, demonstrations of glass blowing and powder metallurgy.
• Genesee Pottery and the Firehouse Gallery (713 Monroe Ave., Rochester, N.Y.): "Thaw: Seconds from the Flame." Opening reception: Feb. 3, 6 p.m.


• Hungerford Artists Building (1115 E. Main St., Rochester, N.Y.): Crocus Clay Works: Anti Freeze@Crocus.
• Hungerford Artists Building (1115 E. Main St., Rochester, N.Y.): Flux2 (March 3 - 10). Opening reception: March 3, 6 - 9 p.m. Saturday hours: 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
• Equal=Grounds Gallery (750 South Ave., Rochester, N.Y.): "MUG SHOTS 2012" Opening reception: March 3, 7 - 9 p.m.

Founded in 2007, by Kathrine Page, former director of the Davison Gallery, the Regional Gallery Director's Forum exists to promote the ideals and business skills of upstate New York regional gallery, museum or cultural center directors to generate greater public appreciation of the arts.
