GENESEO, N.Y. - The State University of New York at Geneseo's School of the Arts and its Vocal Miscellany singers are presenting the Tony award-winning musical RENT Jan. 28-30 at 8 p.m. in Wadsworth Auditorium.
Directed by Geneseo alumna Sarah K.E. Rychlik and musically directed by senior Christopher Blasting, the production of RENT is one of the few to be done by a college in Western New York since ending its 12-year run on Broadway in September of 2008. Geneseo faculty member Alan Case is producing the show, which will feature 15 Geneseo students,
Written by Pulitzer Prize-winner Jonathan Larson and based on Puccini's La Boheme, RENT follows "a year in the life" of a group of struggling young artists in New York's Lower East Side. As each character attempts to create and thrive in the ever-fading bohemian lifestyle of the early 90s, the ever-present AIDS epidemic and the "yuppie" corporate world threaten to change life as they know it.
Tickets are $8 and are available through the Brodie Box Office online at bbo.geneseo.edu or by calling (585) 245-5833. The production contains adult content and may not be suitable for children.
