GENESEO, N.Y. - SUNY Geneseo has advanced to 46th on Forbes magazine's "Top 100 Best Buy Colleges" list, which was published this week in conjunction with the magazine's list of "America's Top Colleges" for 2012. Geneseo ranked 62nd on the list last year.

The best-buy list is calculated by taking a college's overall quality ranking and dividing that by the school's in-state tuition and fees. Geneseo moved up to 322 on the overall quality list, which ranks 650 schools. Last year Geneseo's ranking was 412. The United States has about 2,400 degree-granting colleges.

The overall quality rankings are based on five general categories: post-graduate success; student satisfaction; student debt levels; four-year graduation rate; and competitive awards (e.g., prestigious scholarships, number of students who to earn a doctorate, etc.).

The Washington, D. C.-based Center for College Affordability and Productivity prepared the rankings for Forbes.
