Joining a fraternity or sorority
Is fraternity/sorority life for you?
Since 1871, Geneseo has been the home to a variety of
fraternal organizations. Currently, 18% of our student body is a member of a
fraternity or sorority. There are 30 fraternal organizations at Geneseo of
national and local affiliations. Some focus on community service, some serve
specific professions, like business, and some are social organizations. All
fraternal organizations offer opportunities for leadership development,
community service, academic achievement, and brotherhood/sisterhood.
3, 2013 will begin the recruitment period for the fraternities and sororities
at Geneseo. This is a great opportunity for students to explore the variety of
"Greek" organizations on campus and decide whether or not to become a member.
In order to be eligible to join, a student must be in their second semester at
Geneseo and have a minimum GPA of 2.0. First semester transfer students with a
minimum transfer GPA of 3.5 may appeal this requirement to the Assistant Dean
of Students, Wendi Kinney. To get started, simply log into your Knightweb
account and complete the Greek Grade Release Survey. To learn more about the
fraternities and sororities at Geneseo visit:
Housing selection for 2013-2014
finally here! All of us in Residence
Life are relieved - the campus is alive again.
You just moved into your room last week, but we already want you to
start thinking about your housing arrangements for next year. We hope that this information helps you to
"Find Your Fit" as you prepare for the 2013 Housing Selection process for
February 1: application and housing
deposit deadline for Saratoga Terrace townhouses.
February 15: application and housing
deposit deadline for Gender-Neutral Housing, EcoHouse, and Writers House.
25: application and housing deposit
deadline for all other residence halls.
What else you need to know now:
- If you want
to live in the residence halls next year, you must pay a housing deposit by Monday, March 25.
- During the
Housing Selection process, you can choose your roommate, suitemates, and even
the exact room or suite in which you want to live! Would you be more comfortable in a
traditional corridor-style room, or are you a suite-style person? Visit our Residence Halls web page for details about each of our communities.
- Some spaces -
likely between 60 and 70 - will be available for returning students (that's
you!) in Monroe Hall. The remaining
spaces will be reserved for incoming first-year students.
- As the Spring
2013 semester progresses, we will be sharing information about our new housing
software, housing applications, and other resources to help you "find your fit"
through the Housing Selection process.
Check your Geneseo e-mail accounts frequently for updates, and refer to
our Housing Selection 2013 web site. You
can also watch for the "Housing Roadshow" - we could be coming to a residence
hall near you to answer your questions about campus housing.
Feel free to
contact us in the Residence Life Office (585-245-5726; email@example.com) with any questions. We are also available on Facebook (SUNY Geneseo Residence Life) and Twitter (@GeneseoResLife)!
