The college hosted ASSESStivus today to celebrate learning through assessment, with events scheduled throughout the day, including presentations by programs and offices, a summary of results from the Middle States accreditation process, workshops for assessment coordinators, and a discussion of Geneseo's results on the National Survey of Student Engagement.
The event was the "brainchild" of the College Assessment Advisory Committee — a.k.a CAAC — in the spring 2012 semester as a follow up to Geneseo's 10-year Middle States accreditation team visit. Committee members thought the campus would benefit from an annual event embracing the model of continuous improvement while highlighting assessment initiatives, sharing back information and utilizing best practices. There are several programs planned throughout the day.
As part of the event, Ashley Finley, senior director of assessment and research at the Association of American Colleges and Universities and the national evaluator for Bringing Theory to Practice Project, led a keynote session on "Looking Before you LEAP: The Intent of Making Learning High Impact and How to Assess the Difference."
