La Semaine Nationale du Français — National French Week— begins tomorrow, Nov. 8, and the Department of Languages and Literatures is celebrating with a week of activities, through Nov. 14. The activities are co-sponsored by the Geneseo French Club, Le Cercle Français.
The week kicks off with students demonstrating their language skills in the Third Annual Fench Spelling Bee on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Those who want to watch — and pick up a few new vocabulary words — can do so in Newton 203.
On Monday, Nov. 12, the French film "Bienvenue chez les Ch'tis," or " Welcome to the Sticks," will be screened from7 to 9 p.m. in Newton 203. The film is about Julie, who is living a comfortable life in the South of France, but feels depressed. Her husband tries to get transferred in work to a seaside town, and winds up banished to a distant and cold town.
On Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in Welles 111, there is a French and Francophone Cultural Evening, with presentations on various regions of the French-speaking world.
Activities conclude with a Wednesday, Nov. 14., game night in Milne 104 from 7 to 9 p.m.
